Privacy & cookies
Last updated September 15, 2026
This notice explains how this independent public-data atlas handles information when you use the site. It does not change the licences or privacy practices that apply to an underlying public dataset.
Information processed when you visit
Amazon Web Services and CloudFront deliver the site and create standard access logs. Those logs may contain an IP address, date and time, requested URL, response status, referrer, and browser or device information. They are used to operate, secure, troubleshoot and understand aggregate use of the service. The current infrastructure is configured to delete CloudFront log objects after 90 days.
The atlas does not currently create user accounts, run behavioural advertising, or install its own analytics or advertising cookies. CloudFront logging is configured not to include cookies.
Map and data services
Some imagery and research layers are requested directly from credited third-party services, including Esri and Canadian government map services. When your browser requests those layers, the service provider receives the technical information ordinarily associated with a web request and applies its own privacy terms.
Contact form
If you contact us, Formspree processes the name, email address, topic, message and related technical information you submit so the message can be delivered and answered. Do not submit sensitive personal, financial, account, government-identification or confidential operational information. Formspree handles that information under its privacy policy and retention settings.
Privacy accountability
The Alberta Energy Atlas site operator acts as the Privacy Lead. Privacy questions, access or correction requests, and complaints can be submitted through the contact form.
Storage, safeguards and service providers
Contact information is retained only as long as reasonably needed to answer the inquiry, maintain necessary business records or meet legal obligations. Reasonable administrative and technical safeguards are used, but no internet transmission or storage system can be guaranteed completely secure.
Service providers may process information outside Alberta or Canada, where it may be subject to the laws and lawful access processes of another jurisdiction.
Sharing and disclosure
Information is disclosed only to service providers needed to deliver the site or a message, when required by law, or when reasonably necessary to protect the service, users or others. Alberta Energy Atlas does not sell contact-form information.
Your choices and requests
You may browse the public atlas without creating an account. You can use the contact form to ask about personal information submitted through the form, request a correction or deletion where applicable, or raise another privacy question.
Changes
This notice may be revised when the site’s services or information practices change. The date above identifies the current version.
