Terms & data use
Last updated September 15, 2026
By using Alberta Energy Atlas, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the site.
Independent public-data platform
Alberta Energy Atlas is an independent product. It is not operated, endorsed, approved or reviewed by the Alberta Energy Regulator, Alberta Geological Survey, Orphan Well Association, Government of Alberta, Government of Canada or another source publisher.
Sources, attribution and licences
The atlas compiles public records and map services from credited sources. Each layer identifies its publisher and, where available, links to the original publication. Underlying data remains subject to the source publisher’s applicable licence, terms and attribution requirements. The atlas interface, original text, processing, compilation and presentation are separate from those underlying rights.
Sources, licences, definitions, methods, dates and geographic coverage can change. A layer may be delayed, incomplete, unavailable, revised or removed. A blank area means that the atlas did not display a result there; it does not necessarily mean zero or absence.
Screening and informational use only
The atlas is an exploratory screening and research tool. It is not a land survey, title search, environmental site assessment, utility locate, emergency service, regulatory filing system or substitute for current official records. It does not establish ownership, access rights, contamination, safety, regulatory compliance, project approval or work availability.
Do not rely on this site for excavation, ground disturbance, navigation, emergency response or field safety. Obtain current utility locates and permits, consult the official regulator and source records, and use qualified professionals.
Nothing on the site is engineering, geoscience, environmental, legal, financial, investment or other professional advice. Verify material decisions against current official sources.
Accuracy and availability
The site is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis. To the fullest extent permitted by law, no warranty is made that content is accurate, complete, current, uninterrupted, secure or fit for a particular purpose. Coordinates and imagery may be generalized, sampled, dated or inaccurate. Satellite imagery is not a current inspection.
Permitted use and automated access
You may browse and link to the public site for lawful informational, research and commercial-evaluation purposes. Do not interfere with the service, bypass access controls, introduce malicious code, misrepresent the atlas or its sources, or use automated means to systematically extract or republish a substantial portion of the site’s compiled data, geographic joins or presentation without prior written permission.
This restriction does not limit rights you independently hold in underlying public data under an applicable open-data licence or law. Obtain that data from the credited source when exercising those rights.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the site operator will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or similar loss, or for loss arising from reliance on the site, unavailable data, field activity, business interruption, lost profits or third-party services. Some jurisdictions do not permit every exclusion, so applicable statutory rights remain unaffected.
External services and links
External links, imagery, map services and Formspree are operated by third parties. Their availability, security, content and terms are outside the atlas operator’s control.
Changes and governing law
These terms may change as the service develops. Continued use after a revision means you accept the revised terms. These terms are governed by the laws of Alberta and the federal laws of Canada applicable there, without regard to conflict-of-law rules.
